Dear Fellow NJ CRNA's,

CRNA's We Never Miss A BeatAs you all know, National Nurse Anesthetist Week is rapidly approaching and the theme for 2010 is "CRNA's We Never Miss A Beat". This week will celebrate the many ways CRNA's bring hope and healing to our neighbors and communities. As we prepare to celebrate our own history and profession, let us not forget how world events and the economy have affected our neighbors.

This year NJANA would like to recognize the contributions that our state CRNA's make each day through a community outreach program. We are asking that CRNA's at their workplace set up a food drive during the week of January 24th to January 30th to support their local food bank. Recruit your hospital or surgi-center PR department to help by contacting the local media or by distributing flyers throughout the hospital to each unit asking for their support. Inform your patients and families who will be having surgery that week during their pre-op visit, many will be happy to participate. Lastly, ask to have a donation center set up in your workplace with a poster recognizing "National Nurse Anesthetists Week".

If you are a surgi-center in an office building get the word out to your workplace neighbors. You will find that people are happy to contribute as long as it's easy. During the event we are asking that you take a few pictures, of your food collection site, of the CRNA's in your practice, and or while delivering the food to your local foodbank. Be creative and have fun. Once the week is over we ask that you submit your pictures to the NJANA website with identifying information so that we may post them in recognition of your efforts, write down how you celebrated or what you did to make your efforts unique. Perhaps a prize will be given out at the spring meeting in recognition of your hard work.

We at NJANA believe that we have the BEST CRNA's in the country. Let's celebrate our history and proud profession by helping our neighbors’ at the most basic level. Let's help fill the empty shelves of our local food banks from Morristown to Deptford but also help us get the word out so that it won't be another "best kept secret in healthcare".

Thank You,

Tracy Castleman, APN, CRNA, MS
